Sins of a Generation

Published on Jan 6, 2013
Our forefathers had deep in their hearts the sins that we now carry in our generation. Sin is a weed, an infection that sprouts between the cracks in our faith and impairs our strength in the spiritual fight. Yes, our strength does not exist in this world, but knowing that doesn't prevent us from working ourselves to the bone trying to find it. The cycle of generational sin continues when we fail to draw strength and endurance from the one source that allows us freedom. We turn our backs on God and wonder why our lives, marriages, and relationships don't last. What happens when you don't have the energy to stop a bad habit? It continues, or we pass it on. A sin that is deeply ingrained in our lives doesn't go away overnight. The concept of quitting cold turkey is not an option here, because the void will still be there unless we fill it with something that never deteriorates. We need to fill our lives and the holes of sin with the loving grace of God and more importantly we need to pass this on. We need to teach our children how to overcome sin. > "For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience." > Romans 8:20-25 Execute the plan. Make the vow. Break the series of sin and work where it matters in the home with God standing next to and supporting you. The truth of the Word is that He has overcome and won the battle. One of my favorite songs to sing during worship is "Amazing Grace". When I started to understand what it meant to receive the gift of grace the words to this song made so much more sense. The gift of salvation that we receive the moment we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior is not easy to describe in words. Despite the place we stood or now stand we must never forget the road in which we travel. For each bump God is there, for each flat tire God is there, when our engine stalled God is there, and when we're out of gas God is there waiting to give us exactly what we need. If we allow it sin will destroy our inner world, but strangely the part of our hearts that destroys us also allows us to receive the gift of salvation. "Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; 'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will lead me home." (Amazing Grace) ## Not Bound Why do we still fall when the chains are no longer bound to us? No longer should we be tripped up by the chains of our sin. We've been set free and those chains have no more power to hold us, but why do we still keep carrying them. We carry them in our belief that we still deserve them or that they are some form of security. They are muted and powerless against the blood of Christ that has washed us clean. No longer does our sin or those of our fathers have to pollute our minds. Be free to experience what God has given you in the freedom of His grace.
