Family Comes First

After spending the last few weeks buried in work I’m growing tired of everything in general. Plus when I grow tired it makes me bitter towards everything else around me and for a man of God bitterness isn’t a particularly wanted drink. Bitterness can be intoxicating and often destructive for anyone who comes in contact with it. Though as Christians we can’t allow those feelings or emotions to truly escape our lips, because we must give those feelings to God and let him fill us His overflowing joy. When I go to work I often go under the assumption that I’m there to make the lives of my family better by working hard and bringing home the bacon as it were. From the perspective of God this isn’t the direction that our lives should take because it points us further into the direction of conforming to the ways of the world. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus tells us that we cannot serve two masters. “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (ESV) When I worked my original assumption was that I working for my family, but at the same time I was indirectly ignoring my family and showing them that my work is more important than them. So I am starting a plan to change the direction my work is taking, because I will never truly escape the need to work in order to support my family, but I should show them that my work will always be secondary to what they need.
